Tucked away in Maple Ridge, BC at the confluence of the Stave and Fraser Rivers is Paul Healey and Rebecca Haber’s 50 acre farm, which backs up onto an estuary of 30 artesanal springs that naturally irrigate the land. Hannah Brook, which is home to two pet pigs, is certified organic and farmed using biodynamic practices, including turning beds by hand. In fact, Paul, who was teaching in Washington DC before he came to farming, was mentored by Martin Rothe, one of the pioneers of biodynamic farming in BC. Specializing in salad and wild greens, twenty-five percent of Hannah Brook’s crop are native plants that thrive in the mineral rich soil. It is not uncommon to find rare and obscure greens from Hannah Brook, as Paul enjoys bringing new products to the table.
